Trade & Professional Associations

Legal issues ranging from simple to unique and complex can arise at any time in the trade association, professional society and tax-exempt worlds. To address problems correctly, quickly and cost-effectively, associations and non-profit organizations must be able to trust their legal and regulatory affairs to professionals who know their business, understand their clients’ needs, and care enough to do the job right, every time.

GKG Law’s attorneys have represented tax-exempt organizations in virtually every field and industry. We pride ourselves on focusing on each association client’s industry and profession to better understand its mission and goals.

Our Practice

The Association Practice Group at GKG Law has more than 125 years of combined experience in representing non-profit organizations. This extensive experience enhances our ability to provide value-added, responsive, comprehensive and efficient representation of our clients as the association world evolves.  Our attorneys are frequent speakers at major association and non-profit conferences, including the annual ASAE conference, the annual ASAE Legal Symposium, the annual Association TRENDS Learnapalooza, and the annual ICE conference.

GKG Law’s attorneys are leaders in drafting tax-exempt corporations’ organizational and compliance documents. We advise our clients about corporate and board compliance to ensure that they are engaging in best practices.  We negotiate and draft all types of contracts, including hotel and convention contracts, real estate contracts, employment agreements, licensing agreements, vendor contracts and grant and related funding proposals.  We assist credentialing boards with all of their needs, including exam security, intellectual property, contracts, and the evaluation and enforcement of their codes of ethics, standards of practice and rules and procedures.  And, we provide our clients with the guidance to create a legal structure that enhances efficient operations and eliminates unnecessary restraints.

We speak your language and we utilize our legal expertise to help you accomplish your goals and objectives within the framework of your organization. We proactively identify potential issues and immediately begin structuring correct and meaningful solutions.

Our Services

GKG Law has advised clients with almost every issue that an Association or non-profit organization might encounter.  A comprehensive list of our services and information on each capability is listed on the left side of this page.

GKG Law’s Association Practice Group advises our clients about regulatory changes which may affect our clients and the association landscape, including the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the recent impact of the EU General Data Protection Regulation.  We have handled litigation for our association clients all over the country, in state and Federal courts, and before administrative agencies. We have a record of successfully negotiating settlements and mitigating penalties to be imposed by the FTC, DOJ, IRS, and other regulatory agencies.  GKG Law counsels our clients about the ever-changing legal, statutory and regulatory landscape in order to be best prepared for the future.  We are able to provide our clients with the most current, cutting-edge and comprehensive analysis and planning, and as a result, our attorneys are sought after speakers and writers on these issues.

Our Commitment

GKG Law’s Association Practice Group is a leader in the non-profit world.  We have built strong relationships with the association community and government agencies through our efforts to effectively, and without fail, represent, promote and protect the interests of our clients and their members.

GKG Law is dedicated to delivering the highest quality legal services to our clients.  We don’t just solve legal issues. We take the time to learn about, and fully understand, our clients’ businesses and provide innovative and strategic solutions. It’s why our clients remain clients for decades.
